Farm News

One of the highlights at the farm has been having our 2 alpacas sheared.  This was a great experience for the service users to watch and the really enjoyed feeling how soft the fur was when it came off.  The company that came to shear the alpacas were very good and gave lots of information out to everyone watching.  They also gave us lots of tips on how to handle our alpacas.

We have been busy getting the farm ready for summer! We have been sweeping all our outside areas and cleaning our outdoor furniture ready for lunch ‘Al Fresco’ in the good weather.

The ponies are looking fabulous in their new head collars.  The guys helped to pick the colours for each pony.

We have had more chicks hatch, these include lots of fancy chickens, geese and ducks! They have certainly livened up the classroom!

Our rare black Ayam Cemani chickens are doing really well and are now outside with our rabbits and other small chickens.

The manure pile in the garden has been getting very full so some of the service users have taken on the regular job of making sure the pile is tidy and safe.  They also sweep the car park to clear any debris that has blown about.

Work has begun on the new building next to the far.  The house that stood there before has been pulled down and the site is being prepared for the new buildings.  The guys have really enjoyed watching the diggers.

The baby bunnies in the sensory garden are very cute.  They are extremely fluffy!  We have some new deckchairs, kindly donated to the farm, which we have put near the rabbit run so everyone can watch the rabbits and have a cuddle if they want to.

Some service users have been picking lettuces, cucumbers and tomatoes from the poly-tunnel.  We also had a taster session at the farm so the guys could try things they might not have tried before such as broad beans.

The service users have been mixing sand with soil to allow for drainage of the plants, they have been learning why this is important and also how much sand to use to mix.

We have been doing lots of planting outside, radishes have gone in, tomatoes plants are now thriving outside.  Our raspberry bushes are looking great and hopefully we will have and abundance of fruit this year!

We have also had our first crop of potatoes! They look amazing and we are sure they will taste it too!
